Students are then able to opt to study one of the following subject areas at KS4 in Art and Textiles. GCSE AQA Art and Design or AQA GCSE Art Textiles. These are both popular creative subjects in school. Students are taught by experienced specialist subject teachers who enable students to fulfil their full potential with each qualification. The course structures are very similar and the course is split into 2 Components:Portfolio and Examination. In Component 1 Portfolio, students will follow the themes of Natural Forms, Architecture and Seaside.
Component 2 is an Externally Set Assignment. The skills learnt through these components prepare the students for studying Art or Textiles at the next level as AQA has the same assessment objectives for KS4 and KS5. The AQA courses are linear.
At KS5 students can choose to study A Level Art and Design or A Level Art Textiles. The A Level course comprises two areas of study. Component 1:Portfolio Personal Investigation and Component 2: Externally Set Assignment. Students are encouraged to study further by participation of complimentary extra-curricular activities. Students create a body of work and each year we have students who go on to study on Art Foundations, Art or Textiles degree courses. Some students have secured apprenticeships based within the Arts.
