Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education

The PSHE curriculum includes Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), Citizenship, finance, health, and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) content. The programme is designed to fulfil our duty to enable students to become healthy, happy and productive members of society.

Running throughout the programme is the development of skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, tolerance, teamwork and critical thinking. These are developed alongside the students’ knowledge of their own physical and mental health and wellbeing, health and wellbeing within relationships, as well as economic, legal and political knowledge, and an awareness of the beliefs and experiences of different groups within society.

Our dedicated PSHE sessions are delivered in Key Stage 3 and 4 by our tutor teams, where each year group builds on the knowledge established the year before, developing understanding at an age-appropriate rate and allowing for effective year-on-year interleaving of key elements of the RSE, SMSC, economic and legal elements of the curriculum.

At PCHS we take our responsibility to help develop the whole child beyond the academic curriculum very seriously, and we recognise that an awareness and appreciation of the wider world is a crucial part of preparing our young people for success and happiness.
